At the end of January, I was in a bit of a creative writing slump. I'd been creating something in my sketchbook daily, so instead of painting, I challenged myself to write a poem. I ended up writing A Creative's Guide for Persevering, in a bit of an unconventional way, so today thought I'd share how I wrote it in case you'd like to try something similar, or are just interested in how my brain works.
I am sharing the poem here with everyone, and the behind the scenes how-to is available for those who have upgraded to a paid subscription (thank you!!).
A Creative's Guide for Persevering
If I believe in anything,
it is to be curious
in conversation with the land,
and welcome magic in your breath,
and flow with the language of this season
and be held by poetry
when hours begin to blur
so we might see art
in the contours of every being
and subscribe to care for
everything else.
When I write poetry, I prefer to work with prompts to get me started and usually have my rhyming dictionary and thesaurus next to me for the editing process.
