Searching for the truth, the studio journal of artist Jocelyn Elizabeth, is an exploration of what it means to be alive. I write about my artwork, as well as nature, parenting & life to help you see as much beauty in the world as I do.
Today is day 3 of
‘s Winter Writing Sanctuary, something I’ve looked forward to the past few years, since I started writing again. I’ve been avoiding writing my year in review and a look ahead, so when today’s prompt was “Reflecting: Measuring a year”, I knew that the words would spill out of me, or at least that I could drag them out. And truly, once I started writing, the words didn’t stop, but I have other things to get to today, most importantly, painting with my son, and I had to leave the longer reflection incomplete. So for now, here we are, with the story of my year in a poem.—
one foot in the past,
while the other reaches
for a place to find balance,
and collect all the pieces
to search for alignment
through energetic pathways,
feels so much harder
when the body is inflamed

Beautiful 💛 so calming. I’ve loved Beth Kempton’s tiny poem challenges and am so excited to dive into this retreat once I’m settled into my artist residency. Have a beautiful new year!
